Case-Side Shooting Board for Small and Large Casework
High-precision donkey-ear shooting board for clean, repeatable 45° case miters
The Case Side Miter Shooting Board is a high-end woodworking appliance (also known as a donkey ear shooting board) built to produce accurate, repeatable 45-degree miters on case ends. It helps you dial in clean, well-aligned joints, including demanding joinery like secret mitered dovetails, with less fuss and more consistency.
Why You Need This for Casework
- Achieve precise, repeatable 45° miters on case ends
- Improve joint alignment for clean, tight-looking assemblies
- Reduce tearout and rework on end grain miters
- Built for repeatability when you make multiple parts or projects
- Works for both small pieces and larger casework miters
What’s Included
- Case Side Miter Shooting Board platform (18" x 12")
- Shoots case miters up to 16" wide
- Made from cabinet-quality plywood for long-term stability and longevity
- Integrated cleat for bench-hook use or clamping in a leg vise
- Approx. weight: 4 lb
The platform is built from quality plywood to help resist warping and maintain stability over time and use.
Sacrificial Fence (NEW!)
This version includes a sacrificial fence designed to help reduce end-grain blowout, especially on smaller parts (like box work). It can remain installed for wide miters and for left- or right-handed use: unscrew it from one side and mount it on the other.
Precision 45° Track
A primary feature of the board is the 45-degree front track. The track helps prevent your hand plane from drifting above or below 45°. As with any hand-tool process, final precision depends on technique, but the guided track improves repeatability and control.
Compatible Hand Planes
Works with a range of hand planes, including Stanley, Veritas, Lie-Nielsen, and Japanese planes. It performs especially well with dedicated shooting planes, and can also be used with a block plane for smaller work.
Finish & Feel
Finished with a coat of Tung Oil for durability and scratch resistance. A final wax + steel wool step helps protect the surface and reduces friction so the plane rides smoothly in the track.

I bought my shooting board several years ago and it was dead nuts accurate right out of the box. I have used it to make many boxes over the years and it still holds true. Mine is paired with the Lie-Nielson 51 plane and the two are an incredible combo. Love mine and 10/10 would recommend.
