High-end woodworking case side miter shooting board appliance, also known as donkey ear shooting board, enables high repeatability and precision of mitered case ends, and helps ensure clean and well-aligned joints like secret mitered dovetails. \n

What’s included

\nThe Case Side Miter Shooting Board is made of cabinet-quality plywood, and as a result, it will withstand warping, and provide longevity. The Case Side Miter Shooting Board's platform is 18" x 12" and is able to shoot 16" wide case miters. I use quality plywood to give the platform stability over time and use. \n \nThe appliance weighs approximately 9 pounds. The Miter Shooting Board comes with a cleat, and can, therefore, be used as a bench hook or to clamp into a leg vise. \n

Sacrificial Fence (NEW!)

\nThis new version includes a sacrificial fence that is very helpful in avoiding end grain blowout, particularly on small parts like those used for boxes. This new version will allow you to keep your sacrificial fence on wide miters, as well as left or right handed applications (Just unscrew the fence from one side and screw it into the other). \n

Track

\nAnother primary feature of the Miter Shooting Board is the 45-degree front track. That track prevents the hand plane from losing skewing above or below 45 degrees. Consequently as with any hand tool approach, precision is dependent on your technique. \n

Hand Planes

\nThe Case Side Miter Shooting Board is used with a number of hand planes. Stanley, Veritas, Lie-Nielsen, and others all work, even Japanese planes. It is particularly performant with the Lie-Nielsen #51 and the Veritas shooting plane; it will however even work with a block plane for small pieces. \n

Finish

\nThe Miter Shooting Board is finished with a coat of Tung Oil, therefore providing scratch-resistance and durability over time. I also apply wax with steel wool as a finishing step to protect the surface and make the track more slippery.

Great shooting board!

I bought my shooting board several years ago and it was dead nuts accurate right out of the box. I have used it to make many boxes over the years and it still holds true. Mine is paired with the Lie-Nielson 51 plane and the two are an incredible combo. Love mine and 10/10 would recommend.

Valuable shop appliance

I love making little boxes, and the case miter shooting board makes adding very clean and precise miters a breeze. Very smooth and accurate. I use mine with my #5 low angle jack plane and it works great.
